A few years ago, when Ben & I were visiting a friend in Vancouver we took the opportunity to study how “floating” bike lanes worked since at the time they were being considered for use in Toronto. We wrote up our findings here.

And last year on our anniversary (so romantic) on a cold, rainy day we cycled down to the bottom of Strachan to document some of the problems that have been driving us crazy for years.

I’ve had this photo as one of my screensavers for several years. All in one photo it captures so much of what’s wrong with the North American traffic environment. Notice the man cycling on the road being passed by a truck in a lane not wide enough to share while the woman (wearing a helmet) is on the sidewalk.

I’m never sure whether to laugh or cry at this one. The cyclist (male) taking the lane with a whole string of cars backed up behind him.
